Categories     main dish    side dish

Total Time 45 minutes

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 30 minutes

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb. Green Beans
2 tbsp. Bacon Grease (can Substitute 1 Tablespoon Butter And 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil)
2 cloves Garlic
1 c. Chopped Onion
1 c. Chicken Broth
1/2 c. Chopped Red Bell Pepper
1/2 tsp. (to 1 Teaspoon) Kosher Salt (can Substitute Regular Table Salt; Use 1/4 To 1/2 Teaspoon)
Ground Black Pepper To Taste

Steps:

  • Snap the stem ends of the green beans, or cut them off in a big bunch with a knife if you’d like. Just don’t tell Granny.Melt bacon grease in a skillet over medium low heat. Add garlic and onions and cook for a minute. Then add green beans and cook for a minute until beans turn bright green.Add the chicken broth, chopped red pepper, salt and black pepper. Turn heat to low and cover with a lid, leaving lid cracked to allow steam to escape. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes or until liquid evaporates and beans are fairly soft, yet still a bit crisp. You can add more chicken broth during the cooking process, but don’t be afraid to let it all cook away so the onions and peppers can caramelize.Have a wooden spoon handy to protect your fair share.

Total Time 1500S

Prep Time 600S

Cook Time 900S

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound fresh green beans
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • Rinse and trim the beans. Rinse the green beans under cool water and shake dry. Trim the stem end from the beans and halve any very long beans.
  • Sauté the beans. Heat the oil in a large straight-sided skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the green beans and cook, stirring often, until the beans are bright and glossy, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Season the beans. Add the garlic and salt. Cook, stirring constantly, until the garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Steam the beans. Add the water and immediately cover. Cook covered until the beans are bright green and crisp-tender, 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Serve. Add the red pepper flakes, if using, and serve immediately.
