RECIPE CALORIE CALCULATOR | RACHAEL RAY

Do you ever wonder exactly how many calories are in a serving of your favorite dish? I recently posted a recipe for Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Banana Bread and someone posted a comment asking about how many calories are in a serving. I did some investigating on the Internet and discovered there are many different sites that allow you to track daily calories by allowing you to keep a food log (I like Lose It!, an app on my iPhone) and some sites that allow you to log in recipe ingredients and number of servings and the site calculates the per serving calorie count and nutritional content. The easiest site for me to use was http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php. Many sites require you to search for each recipe ingredient one at a time in their database, which can be somewhat time consuming. On the Calorie Counter website, you just copy and paste the ingredients from your recipe, insert the number of servings, and the recipe is "analyzed" for you. You can also store recipes on the site, and it's free. By the way, here is the nutritional info for my Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (based on 16 servings per loaf) - not too bad as far as calories, but it got a D+ grade as far as nutritional content. Don't bananas, whole wheat flour and yogurt count for something? Maybe I don't really want to know this information after all.....: Nutrition Facts Serving Size 70 g Amount Per Serving Calories 195 Calories from Fat 66 % Daily Value* Total Fat 7.3g 11% Saturated Fat 3.3g 17% Trans Fat 0.0g Cholesterol 34mg 11% Sodium 192mg 8% Total Carbohydrates 29.3g 10% Dietary Fiber 1.4g 6% Sugars 17.0g Protein 4.3g Vitamin A 2% • Vitamin C 3% Calcium 3% • Iron 5% Nutrition Grade D+ * Based on a 2000 calorie diet
