Cheesy Garlic Bread Sticks | Jen's Favorite Cookies image

Hot dog buns covered in garlic butter, herbs, and cheese.

Provided by Jen @ Jen's Favorite Cookies

Cook Time 10 minutes

Yield 6 pieces

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup butter
2 cups shredded mozzarella
3/4 cup shredded parmesan
3-4 cloves fresh garlic (minced)
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
6 hot dog buns

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a bowl. Add cheeses, garlic, and seasoning, and mix together.
  • Separate hot dog buns into two long pieces, so the top and bottom halves of the bun will each form one breadstick. Spread cheese mixture on top of each bun.
  • Lay on a baking sheet and bake at 400F for about 10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned. Serve warm.

These are so easy and they make the kitchen smell heavenly. Serve these with cocktails or dinner or as a snack. A friend gave me this recipe back in the 1970's and I still make them several times a year.

Yield 32 bread sticks, 12-16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 hot dog buns
1/3 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.
  • In a small saucepan melt butter, parsley, oregano, basil and garlic salt.
  • Cover a 15x12 jelly roll pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Cut each hot dog bun in half lengthwise, than cut each half in half lengthwise, making 4 bread sticks from each bun. Lay bread sticks close together on jelly roll pan, cut side up.
  • Brush all the butter mixture evenly over the bread sticks. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until the bread sticks are dried out and crispy. Cool.
  • Store in tightly covered container.
