These skinless teriyaki chicken drumsticks sweet and sticky, and so delicious! Cooked in a skillet with honey, soy sauce, garlic and ginger until the chicken is tender and the sauce thickens. You won't miss the skin!

1 tbsp sesame seeds
chopped scallions

You know the nice, sweet, thick Teriyaki sauce you get from your favorite takeout joint? Now you can have it at home.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/4 cup soy sauce
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
5 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1 -2 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water

Steps:

  • Mix all but cornstarch and 1/4c water in a sauce pan and begin heating.
  • Mix cornstarch and cold water in a cup and dissolve.
  • After sauce is simmering, add cornstarch and water mixture, whisking well until sauce thickens.
  • Heat until sauce thickens to desired thickness.
  • Add water to thin if you over-thick it :).

Use this teriyaki sauce as a marinade, stir fry sauce, or glaze for chicken, salmon or shrimp. We use sake to make teriyaki sauce (it tastes so good).   • Place the chicken in a slow cooker. Mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic and honey and place in the slow cooker. Pour in roughly 100ml water so that the chicken is three-quarters submerged in the liquid. Place on a high heat and cook for 2-3 hours, until the chicken is very tender and falling apart. 

    Towards the end of the chicken cooking time, cook the rice according to the instructions on the packet.

    Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and place the sauce from it in a saucepan. Mix the cornflour with 2 tbsp water and mix until smooth. Add this to the sauce and bring to the boil. Simmer for 3 minutes until thickened. Shred the chicken. 

    Heat a wok and mist with spray oil. Add the garlic, ginger and chilli and cook for 1 minute. Add the pak choi and cook for 1 minute, then add a splash of water and cook for a further 1 minute, until just softened. Add the shredded chicken back to the pan with the sauce to heat through. Serve the chicken and vegetables on the rice sprinkled with sliced spring onion and sesame seeds.
