Chicken Legs with Honey and Aleppo Recipe | Food & Wine image

For an easy weeknight dinner, chef Zoi Antonitsas marinates chicken in a sweet and tangy mix of vinegar, honey, garlic, Aleppo pepper and herbs. Slideshow: More Chicken Recipes

1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons Aleppo pepper
2 tablespoons kosher salt, plus more for sprinkling
6 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon finely chopped rosemary
1 tablespoon finely chopped thyme
4 chicken drumsticks
4 chicken thighs

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients except the chicken and whisk until the honey is dissolved. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the marinade in a small bowl and refrigerate. Add the chicken to the large bowl and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting the excess drip back into the bowl. Arrange the chicken skin side up on the baking sheet. Roast for 40 to 45 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the largest piece registers 160°. Transfer to a platter. Drizzle the chicken with the reserved marinade, sprinkle with salt and serve.

Delicious honey Aleppo chicken served over sticky rice. This recipe will quickly become a family favorite!

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 boneless chicken thighs OR 3 whole chicken breasts
1/4 cup flour
1 tbsp. corn starch
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. ginger powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. paprika
1/4 cup Vegetable oil for frying
1 bottle Honey Aleppo Holic Marinade

Steps:

  • Dice the chicken into 1/2 inch pieces and place in a bowl. Add in the flour, corn starch, salt, black pepper, onion powder, paprika, and ginger powder to coat the chicken.
  • In a deep drying pan, bring the oil to medium-high heat. Fry the chicken until golden brown. Takes about 2-3 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, whisk all the sauce ingredients in a bowl. Transfer to a hot skillet or frying pan and cook on low-heat, simmering until the sauce thickens up.
  • Transfer the fried chicken to the sauce and mix to coat well. Let the sauce and chicken simmer together for 1-2 minutes and then remove from heat.
  • Serve with homemade white sticky rice. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions (optional).
