The perfect sandwich is a warm panini sandwich. Made on the grill or your panini maker, it is the best. Use your favorite cheese or Swiss, ham and bread with a little butter and mayo. Perfection!

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 T. unsalted butter
6 t. mayonnaise, or more as desired
8 slices white bread
8 slices Swiss cheese, Gruyere or your favorite
8 slices cooked or smoked ham or more, if desired

Steps:

  • Preheat grill. Oil if necessary. Spread 1 1/2 t. mayonnaise on 1 side of a slice of bread. Top with 1 slice of cheese, 2 slices of ham, and the second slice of cheese. If desired, put more mayonnaise on the second slice of bread over the cheese to form a sandwich. To make them more crisp, brush the top and bottom of each sandwich with oil. Place in a panini grill and press until bread is crisp and brown and the cheese has melted slightly, from 9 to 10 minutes. Or you can use a grill pan, preheat to medium-high heat. Place a heavy skillet on top of sandwiches and press down. Cook, turning once, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Cut sandwiches in half and serve immediately.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/4-inch thick slices
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme leaves 
8 (1/2-inch) thick slices country-style white bread
1/2 cup whole-grain mustard
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Gruyere
8 slices (8-ounces) Black Forest ham

Steps:

  • In a 12-inch skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the apple slices and thyme. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are slightly soft, about 4 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes. 
  • Preheat a panini press. Spread each bread slice with 1 tablespoon mustard. Arrange 1/4 cup of cheese on each of 4 bread slices and top with 2 slices of ham. Divide the apple mixture evenly on top of the ham. Add the remaining cheese and cover with the remaining 4 bread slices. Grill in the panini press until the cheese has melted and the tops are golden and crispy, about 5 to 6 minutes.
