How to Make Guava in Syrup - Easy image

Guava is one of the most delicious tropical fruits. It's full of benefits and is very popular in Latin America. Therefore, in addition to having it naturally or in juices and jams, we can also enjoy it in other forms, such as dulce de guayaba (a sweet guava paste), jam or even in syrup. Do you have this fruit at home and do you want to know how to make the most of it? At OneHowTo.com we'll explain how to make guava in syrup.

Provided by Max. D Gray

Total Time 45 minutes

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 kilo guava
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Cloves to taste
1 cinnamon stick

Steps:

  • This fruit is full of health benefits and when it is in season it's very tempting to prepare some in order to preserve it for longer. Guava in syrup, also known as guava shells is an excellent way to turn this fruit into a dessert to enjoy its delicious flavor or even to use on ice cones.
  • To make guava in syrup, you should begin by peeling the fruit. Chop it down the middle and, with the help of a spoon, remove the seeds and pulp, leaving only the shells. Put to one side.
  • In a large pot add the 2 cups of sugar and 2 of water, the cinnamon stick and cloves and then stir well until all the ingredients are mixed. Place over the stove on medium heat until it starts to boil.
  • When it reaches boiling point, add the guavas and lower the heat. Let the guava shells cook until they have an intense colour and the syrup has thickened, which will take about 20 minutes. It is important to stir it gently from time to time.
  • Once the guava in syrup is ready, let it cool and store it in pre-sterilised glass jars, so you can keep this dessert for longer. Remember that once opened, it should be refrigerated. If you love making syrup, then at OneHowTo we have several other recipes that will be to your liking: How to make lemon syrup for lemonadeHow to make grenadine syrupHow to make classic syrupChoose the one you like best!

Prep Time 30 minutes

Cook Time 10 minutes

Yield serving

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 kg guavas
300 g sugar
750 ml water

Steps:

  • Makes two 1L jarsPrepare the syrup:Stir the sugar and water over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Then stop stirring and boil rapidly for 2 minutes.Peel and halve the guavas. Remove the pips if you prefer. Place the peeled guavas in the syrup and return to the boil. Reduce the heat as soon as the syrup begins to boil and simmer for about 10 minutes. If the guavas cook for too long they’ll become soggy.Pack the guavas in sterilised jars and pour over the syrup. Use a sterilised testing needle or skewer to release air bubbles along the sides, which will extend the shelf life. Seal the jars immediately.Enjoy them a few weeks later (don’t forget to save some for summer) with whipped cream.Words and image: Home magazineTo receive quick and convenient weekday recipes, join our Easy Weekday Meals mailing list, and for up-to-date trending food, restaurant and wine news subscribe to our Editor’s Weekly newsletter.
