A quick snip of the kitchen shears is all it takes to make a pretty design on top of this meat-filled roll made with refrigerated crescent roll dough.

1 lb. lean ground beef
1 cup garlic-flavored tomato pasta sauce
2 cans (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count)
4 oz. (1 cup) shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Spray 2 cookie sheets with nonstick cooking spray. Brown ground beef in large skillet over medium-high for 5 to 7 minutes or until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently. Drain. Stir in pasta sauce. Remove skillet from heat.
  • Separate dough from both cans into 8 rectangles. Place rectangles on sprayed cookie sheets. Firmly press perforations to seal forming 8 (6x4-inch) rectangles.
  • Spoon about 1/3 cup beef mixture in 1 1/2-inch lengthwise strip down center of each dough rectangle. Top each with 2 tablespoons mozzarella cheese. With scissors or sharp knife, make cuts 1 inch apart on each side of beef mixture. Alternately cross strips over filling.
  • Bake at 375°F. for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown, switching cookie sheets halfway through baking time.

1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 cups frozen chopped broccoli
1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent rolls

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat 6-8 minutes or until beef is no longer pink, breaking beef into crumbles; drain. Stir in broccoli, cheese, sour cream, salt and pepper; heat through. , Unroll 1 tube of crescent dough onto a greased baking sheet; form into a 12x8-in. rectangle, pressing perforations to seal. Spoon half the beef mixture lengthwise down center of rectangle., On each long side, cut 1-in.-wide strips at an angle, about 3 in. into the center. Fold 1 strip from each side over filling and pinch ends together; repeat., Repeat with remaining ingredients to make second braid. Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Sauté the onion in olive oil until tender. Add ground turkey, sauté for a few minutes, using a wooden spoon to break the lumps. Add frozen vegetables, stir, season with salt and pepper; continue to simmer for 5-6 minutes. Add tomato paste, stir and continue to simmer until the vegetables are tender. Stir in grated cheese and cook until all the liquid has evaporated. Set aside to cool. Visually divide the puff pastry, lengthwise, into 3 equal parts. Place the prepared meat and vegetable filling in the middle part of the dough. Cut the remaining 2 parts of the dough at an angle into strips 2 cm apart. Fold the end sides of the dough, and then fold the sides as if braiding (one strip across another). Combine yolk, milk and salt and brush the braid on all sides. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake the braid in a pan lined with parchment paper in the oven at 180°C ( 170°C fan) for 25-30 minutes or until golden in color. Cool slightly, and serve with a salad of your choice.
