GREEN TEA MOJITO RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Green Tea Mojito Recipe - Food.com image

We've all heard of the health benefits of green tea these day, haven't we? Yes we have...thus I will dare to rationalize my little cocktail as being healthy in my mind! LOL. The flavor of the green tea is apt to get lost with the strong flavors of the rum and lime so resist the urge to add more of these ingredients. I recommend Tazo Zen Green tea blend as I think it has enough umph to stand on its own here. Original idea came from the Mellow Monk. Adapted to suit my tastes.

Total Time 5 minutes

Prep Time 5 minutes

BONAVITA GREEN TEA MOJITO RECIPE BY - THE DAILY MEAL

Bonavita Green Tea Mojito Recipe by - The Daily Meal image

How to take your summer cocktail from indulgent to totally healthy? Add a dose of one of nature’s healthiest elixirs: green tea. The original recipe from Bonavita tea and coffee company asks for two teaspoons of sugar, but you can cut it down to one teaspoon for a skinnier experience.

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 tablespoon loose green tea
3/4 cup boiling water
1 cup ice
fresh lime
2 teaspoon caster sugar
2 ounce silver rum
4 ounce chilled green tea
fresh mint
crushed ice
sparkling water

Steps:

  • Put 3 tablespoons (1/2 ounce) loose green tea in a heat-resistant carafe or teapot. Heat water to 185 degrees F and pour 3/4 cup (10 ounces) over the loose tea. Steep 4 minutes. Strain tea over 3/4 cup (10 ounces) ice in another carafe or other tempered glass container. Set the carafe aside until ice is melted. Cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours.
  • Squeeze four lime wedges and drop into highball glass, add sugar and muddle. Bruise 12 mint leaves by rolling them between your palms, rub them on the rim of the glass and drop them in. Fill half the glass with crushed ice, add rum, chilled green tea and stir. Top up with crushed ice and a generous splash of sparkling water. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
