Garlic Potato Gratin Recipe - Easy & Creamy - Bord Bia image

Tastes great with Ribeye Steaks with Chimichurri Sauce or Roast Leg of Lamb with Spicy Topping.

900g potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
300ml milk
150ml light cream
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
A little grated nutmeg
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4, 180°C, (350°F).

    Put the potatoes, milk, cream, garlic, nutmeg and a little salt and pepper in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 3 minutes, stirring regularly. 

    Remove from the heat and transfer the potatoes and sauce to an ovenproof baking dish. 

    Bake for 40-50 minutes until the potatoes are cooked and the top is golden.

4 medium Yukon gold or other yellow-fleshed potatoes (1-1/2 pounds), thinly sliced (about 5 cups)
? cup sliced green onion (3) or thinly sliced leek
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1?½ cups shredded Swiss cheese,Gruyère, provolone, or Jarlsberg cheese (6 ounces)
1 cup whipping cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 2-quart square baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes and half of the green onion in prepared dish. Sprinkle with half of the garlic, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle with half of the cheese. Repeat layers. Pour whipping cream over top.
  • Bake, covered, in the preheated oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Uncover; bake for 20 to 30 minutes more or until potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork and top is golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Makes 6 servings.
