This is a glorious flaming desert presentation for your Holiday guests. They will be talking about this cake for years! The flaming cherries are ladled onto the slices of cake at the table! Be sure to turn the lights down low when it is time to serve. I found this in a magazine ad years ago. I do not know the year as I have been collecting and keeping only the best recipes for over 60 years. Sorry I did not write down the dates! This recipe and picture is from a Pillsbury Advertisement ad. Note from Susan: A 1986 recipe

- cake:
1 package(s) pillsbury plus yellow cake mix
1 cup(s) dairy sour cream
1/3 cup(s) oil
1/4 cup(s) rum
3 - eggs
- sauce:
21 ounce(s) can cherry fruit pie filling
16 ounce(s) can whole cranberry sauce
1/2 cup(s) rum

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350. Grease and flour two round cake pans. In a large bowl, combine all cake ingredients at low speed until moistened. Beat two minutes at highest speed. Pour evenly into pre-pared cake pans.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick test comes out clean. Cool in pans on a rack 15 minutes. Then remove.Put each cake on a serving plate, and cut into wedges. Place a wedge on a small cake plate, for each person.
  • Just before serving, heat fruit sauce in a large skillet, until mixture just comes to a boil. Pour rum over hot fruit sauce. DO NOT STIR ! Ignite and ladle over cake wedges at the table.. Magnificent Presentation!!! Enjoy the compliments! ..Nancy 12/13/11

Flamblé cherries jubilee yourself and feel like a master chef. Enjoy caramelized cherries served with vanilla ice cream in a flashy style.

Number Of Ingredients 5

30 oz (2 cans), drained liquid reserved dark sweet cherries
1 qt vanilla ice cream
2 tbsp orange-flavored liqueur
2 tbsp brandy
2 tbsp cornstarch

Steps:

  • Place drained cherries in a saucepan over low heat.
  • Mix the cornstarch in the cherry liquid and stir until dissolved.
  • Pour liquid in with cherries and heat until thickened.
  • Pour the orange liqueur in with the cherries and stir.
  • Just before serving, pour brandy over cherries and light with a match.
  • Allow blue flame to burn off and immediately spoon cherry mixture over vanilla ice cream.
  • Serve and enjoy.
