Fig-Honey Tarts Recipe | MyRecipes image

Provided by MyRecipes

Yield Makes 6 individual tarts or 1 large tart; 6 or 8 to 9 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

Nut shortbread crusts or crust
6 tablespoons honey
6 tablespoons whipping cream
? cup coarsely chopped hazelnuts
1?½ teaspoons grated lemon peel
About 1 1/3 pounds ripe black-skinned figs
Vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Bake nut shortbread crusts (set individual crusts in a 12- by 15-inch pan) in a 350° oven (or a 325° convection oven) until golden at edges, 20 to 25 minutes.
  • While crusts bake, make nut sauce. In a bowl, mix honey, whipping cream, hazelnuts, and lemon peel.
  • Rinse figs, trim stems, and cut into pieces that are about 1 inch wide. Arrange figs, tips and cut side up, in hot crusts or crust.
  • Spoon nut sauce equally over fruit.
  • Bake in a 350° oven (or a 325° convection oven) until sauce is bubbling and crust is deep golden, 20 to 24 minutes for individual tarts, 50 to 55 minutes for a large tart.
  • Cool in pan or pans on a rack at least 30 minutes. If making ahead, chill airtight up to 1 day. Remove pan rims. Serve with ice cream
  • Nut shortbread crusts: In a food processor, mince 1/3 cup hazelnuts with 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup sugar. Add 1/2 cup (1/4 lb.) butter or margarine, in chunks, and whirl until fine crumbs form. Add 1 large egg yolk and whirl until dough holds together. (Or mince nuts with a knife, then put in a bowl. Rub in flour, butter, and sugar until fine crumbs form; then, with a fork, mix in yolk. Pat into a ball.) In 6 tart pans (4 1/2 in. wide) with removable rims, or an 11-inch tart pan, press dough evenly over bottom and up sides, flush with rims.
  • Nutritional analysis per individual tart.

FIGS IN HONEY | FRUIT RECIPES | JAMIE OLIVER RECIPES

Figs in Honey | Fruit Recipes | Jamie Oliver Recipes image

There's something so wonderful about the fig and honey combo – try it on a festive cheeseboard

Total Time 4 hours 5 minutes

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 5

24 figs halved
2 clementines
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons caster sugar
1 large jar runny honey

Steps:

    1. Preheat your oven to 110ºC/225ºF/gas ¼. Lay your figs, cut-side up, in a baking tray. Using a fine grater, zest your clementines over the figs then dust the figs with a sprinkling of cinnamon and a teaspoon of sugar.
    2. Pop the figs in the oven to bake for 4 hours, checking on them every hour or so. When they come out of the oven you’ll have semi-dehydrated figs, which will be a bit like wine gums.
    3. A really nice way of using them at Christmas is to turn them into a bit of a gift by popping a stack of them in a sterilised jar, covering them completely with honey then sealing the jar with an airtight lid. They’ll be beautiful as part of a cheese platter, baked in a tart, a sticky toffee pud, or even thrown into a roasting tray with some pork or other meat for a bit of added sweetness. Give them to your mates when you go round to theirs for dinner. They’ll love getting something unique, especially when you explain all the different things they can do with them.

FIG AND HONEY JAM WITH WALNUTS RECIPE | ALLRECIPES
I recently made a meat and cheese board for my family and wanted to make a jam/preserve with it that we normally wouldn't have. Figs came to mind and, after searching around a little and getting a few ideas, I came up with this. It was such a huge hit that I decided to share it. I hope that everyone enjoys it as much as we did! It will last for up to 30 days if you do not can it.

  • Turn the batter into the cake tin and make a dip in the middle using the back of a spoon. Bake for 3½ hrs, then insert a skewer – if it comes out clean, it’s ready. If there is any cake mix on the skewer, give it 10 mins more and test again. When it’s done, remove the cake from the oven and leave to cool in its tin. The next day, remove from the tin, wrap in fresh greaseproof paper, then put it into an airtight tin or wrap tightly in foil. The usual thing is to keep the cake for at least a month before icing it, and to unwrap and sprinkle it occasionally with more brandy.
