This dish emerged from my favorite cabbage and egg pie filling, that's how much I love cabbage with egg! Now it's a family favorite.

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 tablespoons butter, divided
1 medium head cabbage, grated
1 onion, sliced
4 eggs
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill

Steps:

  • Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add cabbage and cook and stir until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add onion, reduce heat, and cover. Cook, stirring frequently, about 15 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons butter and cook for another 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, place eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 15 minutes. Remove eggs from hot water and cool under cold running water. Peel and cut into cubes.
  • Season cabbage with salt and pepper and stir in the eggs. Sprinkle with dill and serve hot.

This is a German recipe from my Grandmother. It's cabbage that is lightly browned in butter and mixed with egg noodles and browned lightly for a wonderful, hearty, and fast dish.

1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
1 stick butter
1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the egg noodles in the boiling water until the pasta is tender yet firm to the bite, about 5 minutes. Drain.
  • While the noodles cook, melt the butter in a large skillet over low heat. Add the cabbage to the melted butter; season with salt and pepper. Cover and cook until the cabbage begins to brown, 5 to 7 minutes. Stir the drained noodles into the cabbage; cook and stir until the noodles begin to brown, about 5 minutes.
