1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 tablespoons sliced green onion
1 dash ground red pepper (cayenne)
12 onion rolls, split

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Mix butter, onions and red pepper thoroughly. Spread butter mixture on cut sides of rolls. Reassemble rolls. Wrap each roll in piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil; seal securely.
  • Bake about 20 minutes or until hot. Serve warm.

Topping
1 large (2 cups) red onion, halved, sliced
2 medium (2 cups) white or yellow onions, halved, sliced
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
Burgers
1 pound lean ground beef
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 onion buns, split
8 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American

Steps:

  • Heat gas grill to medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white.
  • Combine all topping ingredients in 12-inch nonstick skillet. Cook over medium heat 10-15 minutes or until onions are softened. Remove from heat. Keep warm.
  • Combine ground beef, salt and pepper in bowl. Shape into 4 patties. Place patties onto grill. Grill, turning once, 15-18 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160°F and meat is no longer pink in center.
  • Place burgers onto bottom half of buns. Top each with 2 slices cheese; let melt slightly. Divide onion mixture evenly among burgers; place top half of bun over burger.
