To make a dead-on clone, Granny Smith apples are sauteed in butter, brown sugar and cinnamon, then allowed to cool for a bit. That way, when the batter is poured into the pan, the apples and glaze stay anchored to the bottom. This technique also prevents the glaze from penetrating into the batter as the pancake bakes since there is now an apple barrier preventing any mixing of the ingredients. When the pancake comes out of the oven it's flipped over onto a plate and the apples are right there on top, dripping with a delicious cinnamon-sugar glaze. You won't need any syrup for this one, that's for sure. Just a light dusting of powdered sugar on top. Then dig into an apple pancake unlike any other. My dogs--especially my puppy, Tango Foxtrot--loved carrots, apples, and peanut butter. So, for his first birthday, I combined Tango's favorite flavors into a special treat just for him. Make sure to use a natural peanut butter that does not contain added salt, sugar, or other ingredients. Keep extra treats stored in the fridge.

Number Of Ingredients 5

Ingredients

1 ¼ cups grated carrots
1 ¼ cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup grated apple
½ cup natural peanut butter
2 eggs

Steps:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
Mix carrots, oats, and apple together in a large bowl. Whisk peanut butter and eggs until thoroughly combined in a second bowl. Pour into the oat mixture and stir until thoroughly combined.
Drop 1 1/2 tablespoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheets. Flatten each treat with your hands until they are 1/2-inch thick.
Bake in the preheated oven until treats are firm to the touch and begin to brown on the bottom, 15 to 20 minutes. Allow to cool a few minutes on the baking sheets before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

Blend on low speed for about 30-45 seconds, stopping to scrape the sides and bottom of the blender at least once, until very smooth. Place a metal 9by-13-inch baking dish in the oven and let preheat for 20 minutes, while the batter rests. Wearing oven mitts, very carefully remove the hot baking pan from the oven. Add the butter and swirl to coat the bottom of the tin. Immediately pour in the batter and sprinkle all over with 1 cup of raspberries (reserve the remainder for later). Bake for 18-20 minutes until puffed and golden. For the cocoa sugar: Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Place in a sifter, set over an empty bowl. Set aside. For the Nutella syrup: Place the milk and Nutella in a small bowl. Microwave for 20 seconds until warm. Whisk until well combined. Set aside. As soon as the dutch baby pancake is ready, remove from the oven. Quickly dust with the cocoa sugar, top with the remaining raspberries and drizzle with the Nutella syrup. Serve immediately with more Nutella syrup on the side.
