Total Time 40 minutes

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 30 minutes

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 21

2 lbs Apples (, any variety)
For the Caramel Dip
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 can ((15-ounce) sweetened condensed milk)
1 stick ((8 tbsp) butter)
1/4 - 1/2 cup milk ((this makes the caramel creamy like a dip). More or less to your desired)
consistency.
1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
Optional Topping Ideas
mini toffee bits
mini marshmallows
mini chocolates
mini M&M
bears/worms
toasted Coconut shreds
toasted crushed peanuts
toasted Almond slivers
toasted pecan pieces
peanut butter (, thinned out slightly with water)
pretzel pieces

Steps:

  • Ahead of the party, make your caramel dip. It will need a few hours to cool.
  • To make the caramel: Add the corn syrup, brown sugar, and sweetened condensed milk, and butter into a small sauce pan. With a candy thermometer, cook the caramel until it reaches 240°F (soft ball stage). If you do not have a candy thermometer, you can drop a bit of the caramel into ice water. If it forms a soft ball, you are at the right stage. If it is harder than you desire, add a touch more milk at the end - as it's the cream that determines the consistency of the caramel. Ince it's done, I usually allow it to cool slightly before pouring into either a buttered 8" x 8" pan to cool completely or a serving dish. Set aside and allow to cool - usually at least 2 hours.
  • At serving time: Wash and dry the apples and set aside. I cut mine just before serving to prevent browning.
  • Create the toppings bar. I like to use two 6-well muffin tins. It's perfect to carry and contain the toppings. If you have fewer than six ingredients, use one. Obviously, if you have more than six, use two.
  • Slice and core the apples. If using, insert candy sticks into the bottom or each apple wedge and arrange them on a platter.

THE BEST CARAMEL APPLES RECIPE | ALLRECIPES

The Best Caramel Apples Recipe | Allrecipes image

When I was searching for a recipe to make homemade caramel apples for the very first time, a close friend gave me this amazing and fairly easy recipe. My family and friends loved these delicious treats! Sprinkle with nuts or whatever you desire while the caramel is still warm (work quickly, the caramel sets VERY fast).

Total Time 2 hours 0 minutes

Prep Time 30 minutes

Cook Time 30 minutes

Yield 8 caramel apples

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 large tart apples
8 wooden chopsticks for handles
1 cup butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Dip apples in boiling water for a few seconds, then dry with paper towels to remove any wax from the peels. Set apples aside; when completely cool, insert a wooden chopstick firmly into the bottom of each apple for a handle.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Stir butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk together in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and reduce heat to medium. Cook until a candy thermometer reads 248 degrees F (120 degrees C), 25 to 30 minutes; stir constantly to prevent burning. A teaspoon of the syrup, dropped in a glass of cold water, should form a firm ball. Remove caramel from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Working quickly, dip each apple into the hot caramel to completely coat the apple and about 1/2 inch of the wooden handle. Sprinkle apples with any desired toppings while still hot. Let caramel apples cool on the parchment paper. Use caution, caramel is very hot.

  • When the temperature of the caramel reads around 190 degrees F, dip an apple, using the stick as a handle and swirling to coat completely. Allow excess caramel to drip off the bottom and use a spatula to help remove any large amount of caramel, as it will pool around the apple when you set it down to cool on the lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining apples, gently heating the caramel on the stovetop over low heat, stirring, if it gets too thick for dipping. Allow the caramel to set and cool completely before serving or wrapping apples, about 1 hour. (See Cook's Note.)
