A delicious “no- bake" dessert recipe - this orange dessert with caramel sauce is just perfect for those special moments!

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 (3.4-oz.) pkg. instant vanilla pudding and pie filling mix
1 (6-oz.) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 1/2 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed
1/2 cup caramel ice cream topping
5 thin orange slices
3 medium seedless oranges, peeled, coarsely chopped (1 1/2 cups)

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, combine all crust ingredients; mix well. Press mixture evenly in bottom of ungreased 9-inch square pan. Set aside.
  • Beat cream cheese in medium bowl until smooth. Add pudding mix; mix well. Add orange juice concentrate; blend well. Gently fold in whipped topping and chopped oranges. Spread over crust in pan. Cover; refrigerate at least 2 hours or until firm.
  • Cut dessert into squares. Spoon about 1 tablespoon caramel topping on each individual dessert plate. Place dessert square on caramel topping. Cut orange slices in half; twist each half to form orange twist. Garnish each serving with orange twist.

Velvety, smooth, creamy... so many ways to describe this delightful custard. Making caramel can be tricky. This recipe is easy and tastes amazing. Keep a stash in the fridge for an ice cream topping. Heavenly!

FOR CUSTARD
1 tablespoon(s) gelatin, unflavored
1/2 cup(s) cold milk
3 medium egg yolks; reserve whites
1 cup(s) sugar
1 1/2 cup(s) cold milk
3 - egg whites; beaten to stiff peaks
1 cup(s) whipped cream
CARAMEL SAUCE
5 tablespoon(s) butter
4 tablespoon(s) cream
1 cup(s) brown sugar
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Soften gelatin in 1/2 c cold milk.
  • Beat egg yolks and sugar well in a heatproof bowl. Slowly add 1-1/2 cups of milk. Cook in a double boiler until mixture coats spoon. (Actually, I use a whisk and it also will coat the whisk). Add gelatin mixture and stir together. Place in fridge until mixture is completely chilled.
  • When totally chilled, beat the mixture, with a whisk, until creamy and not lumpy. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and whipped cream. Add vanilla and mix well.
  • Pour into parfait dishes and chill.
  • For caramel sauce, add butter, cream, vanilla and brown sugar to a saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil and stir for 2 minutes.
  • Let cool slightly and serve over custard.
  • You can add any other flavor topping to the custard if you prefer.

STICKY DATE NUT PUDDING DESSERT WITH CARAMEL OR TOFFEE SAUCE
My sister-in-law makes this for my in-laws' Christmas meal and it is delicious. I added this to my extended family's holiday table several years ago and now I would be in trouble if I didn't make it and bring it to our holiday feast! In the past three years, it has become a new tradition for my family (which doesn't happen often!). My mother even requests this for the Thanksgiving meal. If you're searching for something deliciously different for your holiday meals, you will not be disappointed with this. It is a trifle-like dessert with layers of cubed, moist date/nut cake, cool whip, and candy-like caramel or toffee sauce. AMAZING. This recipe makes one dessert bowl. Doubling this will make it fit nicely into a 9x13" pan and into two dessert bowls.
