Ruza Casserole Recipe with Crescent Rolls | Hy-Vee image

If you're not from Nebraska, you might not be familiar with this take on a casserole. A Runza casserole has two layers of crescent roll dough, meat, vegetables, and cheese. YUM.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (8-oz. each) tubes Hy-Vee refrigerated crescent rolls
1.5 lbs. of lean ground beef
1 medium green cabbage
1 medium yellow onion
0 Hy-Vee salt
0 Hy-Vee ground black pepper
1 (10.5-oz.) can Hy-Vee cream of mushroom soup
1 c. of Hy-Vee shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • 1.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Lay one roll of crescent rolls in the bottom of prepared pan; set aside.

    Add ground beef to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, breaking up large chunks, until beef is no longer pink (165 degrees). Stir in cabbage and onion. Cook 1 to 2 minutes more or until cabbage has wilted slightly. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer mixture to prepared pan.

    Add soup and shredded cheese to a medium bowl. Stir to combine. Add to prepared pan covering meat layer. Top with remaining crescent roll dough. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until crescent rolls are golden brown and center is bubbly.

1 lb ground beef, cooked, drained
1 package (1 oz) Old El Paso™ taco seasoning mix
1 can (11 oz.) whole kernel corn with red and green peppers, undrained
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar-Jack with jalapeño peppers cheese blend (6 oz)
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count) or 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Dough Sheet

Steps:

  • In 10-inch skillet, mix beef, taco seasoning mix and corn. Heat to boiling over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Spoon into ungreased 12x8-inch (2-quart) baking dish; sprinkle with 1 cup of the cheese.
  • Separate or cut dough into 2 long rectangles (if using crescent rolls, press perforations to seal). Place on top of meat mixture. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese.
  • Bake at 375°F 15 to 20 minutes.
