Golden Crescent Rolls Recipe | Allrecipes image

This is a great recipe for sweet, fluffy crescent rolls (kind of like a croissant but more dense).

Yield 20 -30 rolls

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
¾ cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
½ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
½ cup butter, room temperature
4 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup butter, softened

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Stir in sugar, salt, eggs, butter, and 2 cups of flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in remaining flour until smooth. Scrape dough from side of bowl. Knead dough, then cover it and let rise in a warm place until double (about 1 1/2 hours).
  • Punch down dough. Divide in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch circle. Spread with butter. Cut into 10 to 15 wedge. Roll up the wedges starting with the wide end. Place rolls with point under on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise until double (about 1 hour).
  • Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 12-15 minute or until golden brown. Brush tops with butter when they come out of the oven.

These calzone sandwiches are made with refrigerated crescent dinner rolls packed with ground meat, cheese, bell pepper and pizza sauce, served warm right from the oven.

1/2 lb bulk Italian pork sausage or ground beef
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count)
1/4 cup pizza sauce
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (2 oz)
1 egg, beaten

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Grease or spray cookie sheet. In 10-inch skillet, cook sausage and garlic over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Stir in bell pepper.
  • On cookie sheet, unroll dough and separate into 4 rectangles; press each into 7x4-inch rectangle, firmly pressing perforations to seal. Spread 1 tablespoon sauce on half of each rectangle to within 1 inch of edge. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons cheese over sauce; top with one-fourth of sausage mixture. Fold dough over filling; firmly press edges with fork to seal. Brush top of each with egg. With fork, prick top of each to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until deep golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Serve warm.

Roll each portion into a 12-in. circle; cut each circle into 12 wedges. Roll up wedges from the wide end and place point side down 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets. Curve ends to form crescents. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. , Preheat oven to 350°. Bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks.
