Total Time 1 hours 0 minutes

Prep Time 45 minutes

Yield 18 turnovers

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 tablespoons butter
? cup packed brown sugar
3 cups peeled, cored, and chopped Jazz, Granny Smith, or Jonagold apples
6 ounces cream cheese, cut up and softened
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 egg yolk
1 17.3 ounce pkg. frozen puff pastry sheets (2 sheets), thawed
1 egg, lightly beaten
1?¼ cups powdered sugar
Milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • For filling, in a large skillet heat butter and brown sugar over medium heat until butter melts. Add apples and 1/4 cup water. Cover and cook 5 minutes. Uncover and cook 8 to 10 minutes more or just until apples are tender, stirring occasionally. Remove and cool slightly. Stir in 4 oz. of the cream cheese, the flour, and egg yolk; mix well.
  • On a lightly floured surface, unfold and roll out one pastry sheet to a 12-inch square. Cut into nine 4-inch squares. Spoon a rounded tablespoon of the filling into the center of each square. Brush edges of pastry squares with water. Fold each pastry in half to form a triangle. Seal edges with the tines of a fork. In a small bowl combine the beaten egg and 1 Tbsp. water. Brush half of the egg mixture over pastries. Arrange on one of the prepared baking sheets. Bake 15 minutes or until puffed and golden. Remove; cool on wire rack placed over waxed paper.
  • Repeat with remaining puff pastry, filling, and egg mixture to make 9 more turnovers.
  • In a medium bowl beat the remaining 2 oz. cream cheese with a mixer on medium until smooth. Gradually beat in powdered sugar. Beat in enough milk, 1 Tbsp. at a time, to reach a thick drizzling consistency. Transfer to a resealable plastic bag. Snip one corner from the bag. Drizzle icing over the turnovers. Serve warm or let cool.

CREAM CHEESE & HONEY TURNOVERS | JUST A PINCH RECIPES
Oh yum! As you bite into the puff pastry, there's a lovely crunch from the buttery, flaky crust. The honey-vanilla cream cheese filling is smooth and creamy. It has a nice tang from the cream cheese, but the honey adds a hint of sweetness. The sprinkled sugar on top just adds to the sweetness. These are simple, yet delicious.

  • Heat oven to 450°F. Line 2 baking pans with parchment paper. Unroll each piecrust and cut into quarters (each quarter will look like a triangle). Carefully fold each dough triangle in half lengthwise, to create a crease, and open again so that each piece lies flat. Cut four horizontal slits on one side of each crease, leaving a 1/2-inch border of uncut dough along the outer edge of that side of the triangle. Place the cream cheese, egg yolk, 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt in a small bowl and stir until combined and smooth. Place 1 tablespoon each of the cream cheese mixture and jelly onto the uncut side of each dough triangle. Spread slightly, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Lightly brush egg white around the edges of the dough. Fold the cut side over the filled side and crimp the edges with a fork to form the turnovers. Place on the prepared baking pans. Lightly brush the turnovers with egg white and sprinkle each with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Bake until the dough is golden brown and the filling begins to bubble -- 12 to 14 minutes. Serve warm.
