Green sprinkles add a festive touch to this dessert of fudgy chocolate brownies, adapted from the "Martha Stewart Baking Handbook."

Categories     Dessert & Treats Recipes

Yield Makes 2 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup) unsalted butter, plus more for pan
12 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
2 1/4 cups sugar
6 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
Green sprinkles, for topping

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 13-by-9-inch baking sheet. Line baking sheet with parchment paper, leaving a 1-inch overhang on the two long sides. Set aside. Place butter and chocolate in a large heatproof bowl set over (but not touching) simmering water; stir frequently until chocolate and butter are melted, about 7 minutes. Remove bowl from heat; let cool to room temperature, 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Stir sugar into cooled chocolate mixture until combined. Whisk in eggs one at a time, whisking until smooth after each addition. Whisk in vanilla. Gently fold in flour and salt.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan, and smooth top with an offset spatula; scatter green sprinkles over top. Bake until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs attached, 40 to 45 minutes. Transfer pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Run a knife or offset spatula around the edges of the pan. Using parchment paper, lift brownies out of pan and onto the rack. Transfer to a cutting board; cut into 2-inch squares. Brownies can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

CHOCOLATE DIPPED BROWNIE COOKIES WITH RAINBOW SPRINKLES ...
From loveandoliveoil.com
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.Sift flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt into a mixing bowl. Set aside.Combine chocolate and butter in a double boiler or a heat-proof bowl set over a pot of barely simmering water. Stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and set aside. In a mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, beat together eggs, sugar, and vanilla until pale and creamy, about 8 minutes. Mix in melted chocolate mixture. Add dry ingredients and stir until just incorporated. Fold in chocolate chips.Drop batter using a small cookie scoop by the scant tablespoonful onto cookie sheet, leaving two inches of space between cookies. The batter will be somewhat loose at this point, but shouldn’t be runny. It will thicken the longer it sits.Bake for 7 to 8 minutes or until tops are shiny and cracked. Like a brownie, you don’t want to over bake these cookies. Remove from oven and let cool on cookie sheet for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. To dip, gently melt chocolate together with 1 tablespoon of shortening. You can use a microwave, heating on low power in short, 15 to 20 second bursts, or in a double boiler, setting the bowl over the simmering water and then removing it from the heat. The residual heat should be enough to melt the chocolate without overheating it. If you can melt the chocolate ever so gently, and not allow the temperature to exceed 88 degrees F, it will retain its original temper and will harden nice and shiny. Add more shortening as needed to thin out the chocolate to a dipping consistency, then dip half of each cookie into the melted chocolate. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and top with sprinkles, if desired.Cookies are best enjoyed within a day or two but will keep, covered in an airtight container, for up to a week.

  • 1. With a rack in the center, preheat the oven to 325?F. Spray a 9-by-9-inch square pan with nonstick cooking spray and line with a rectangle of parchment paper, leaving a 2-inch overhang on two opposite sides. Set aside. 2. Place the chocolate, butter and vanilla in a heatproof mixing bowl. Set the bowl on top of a small saucepan with about 2 inches of simmering water, making sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Stir to melt together, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside. 3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cocoa powder, flour and salt. Whisk to fully combine and break up any lumps. Set aside. 4. In another mixing bowl, with a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the eggs and both sugars until light and doubled in volume. Add the sourdough starter and mix to fully combine. Add the chocolate mixture and whisk or beat in until thick and uniform. 5. Add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture, then switch to a spatula and fold together until no dry patches remain. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan, spreading it out into an even layer with the spatula. 6. Dot the top of the brownies all over with the jam, then swirl it through the batter by running a toothpick or the tip of a paring knife through the dots in any pattern you desire. Bake the brownies until set, 35 to 40 minutes. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with flaky sea salt and allow them to cool in the pan for at least 1 hour. Use the overhanging parchment paper to lift them out of the pan and slice into squares.
