A QUICK AND EASY RECIPE FOR PRUNE MUI – RECTANGULAR ONE



A quick and easy recipe for prune mui – Rectangular ONE image

Prune mui is a snack favorite in Hawaii and is fairly easy to prepare. I use a Season-Serve Jr. container (a.k.a. “Marinator”) to marinate my prune mui. Fun Fact: The first time I ever tried prune mui, I learned that day that everything everyone said about eating too many prunes… was true.

12 oz prunes, pitted
1 lb brown sugar
3 Tbsp li ring powder
2 Tbsp Chinese Five Spice powder
8 Star Anise cloves
3 Tbsp whiskey
2 cups lemon juice

Steps:

  • In a Season-Serve® Container, combine all ingredients (except for the red ginger, if used). Let stand for 2 to 4 days, flipping the Season-Serve® at least twice per day.

1/2 lb apricot
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tablespoon salt
2 lemons, juiced (about 1/2 cup)

Steps:

  • Stir sugar, salt and lemon together.
  • Add to prune and apricot mixture.
  • Let soak overnight, room temp.
  • Refrigerate.

APRICOT PRUNE MUI | JUST A PINCH RECIPES
It is a local favorite here in Hawaii. I make this every year during the Holidays for gift giving. Either use mason jars or Holiday themed canning jars or plastic Holiday containers that have tight covers. Add a bow on the top, and it looks so festive. Besides it's "ono" delicious!
