Holiday Ribbon Gelatin Recipe: How to Make It image

Layers of red and green make this festive salad a favorite during the Christmas season. Kids are sure to find it fun to eat, and adults will enjoy the combination of sweet-tart flavors. —Jenny Hughson, Mitchell, Nebraska

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 packages (3 ounces each) lime gelatin
5 cups boiling water, divided
4 cups cold water, divided
1 package (3 ounces) lemon gelatin
1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 cup mayonnaise
1 can (8 ounces) crushed pineapple, undrained
2 packages (3 ounces each) cherry gelatin

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve lime gelatin in 2 cups boiling water. Add 2 cups cold water; stir. Pour into a 13-in. x 9-in. dish; refrigerate until firm but not set, about 1 hour., In a large bowl, dissolve lemon gelatin in 1 cup boiling water. Stir in marshmallows until melted. Cool for 20 minutes. In a small bowl, beat cream cheese and mayonnaise until smooth. Gradually beat in lemon gelatin. Stir in pineapple. Carefully spoon over the lime layer. Chill until firm but not set. , Dissolve cherry gelatin in 2 cups boiling water. Add remaining cold water; stir. Spoon over the lemon layer. Refrigerate entire gelatin salad overnight. Cut into squares to serve.

These taste like the real thing for those of us who don't have access to St. Joseph, MO's famous yummy candies. Rich cherry nougat surrounded by chocolate and chopped peanuts.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 stick(s) margarine
1/2 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1 pound(s) confectioners' sugar
1 box(es) vanilla frosting mix (dry)
1 package(s) cherry jello (small size, dry mix)
8 ounce(s) maraschino cherries, drained, dried, chopped in blender
1/2 can(s) sweetened condensed milk
10 ounce(s) unsalted peanuts, crushed
18 ounce(s) chocolate chips, either milk chocolate or semi-sweet
1/2 ounce(s) paraffin (1/8 of a bar)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients with mixer til well-blended. Roll into desired size balls. I suggest small ones since this is a very rich candy and the chocolate coat will add some size, also. Chill thoroughly
  • Melt chocolate chips with parafin. Stir til well-blended. Mix in peanuts.
  • Dip chilled cherry balls into mixture, reheating chocolate if it begins to harden. Chill thoroughly til set. Enjoy!

Dip half of the balls into milk chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. Place on waxed paper; let stand until set., Melt dark chocolate; stir until smooth. Dip remaining balls into dark chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. Place on waxed paper; let stand until set. Drizzle with melted chocolate and decorate with pearl dust as desired. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
