A garlic bread recipe is a cinch to add as a side when you start with frozen dough. This cheese bread recipe turns into breadsticks with a simple slice and twist method.

Number Of Ingredients 7

¼ cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon bottled minced garlic (2 cloves)
½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed
1 16 ounce loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
2 tablespoons pine nuts, toasted
½ cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese (2 ounces)

Steps:

  • Grease baking sheets; set aside. In a small bowl stir together butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning. Set aside.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll bread dough into a 12-inch square. (If dough is too elastic, let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before rolling.) Spread butter mixture evenly over dough. Sprinkle with pine nuts, pressing into dough slightly. Sprinkle with cheese.
  • Fold dough into thirds. With a sharp knife or pastry wheel, cut dough crosswise into twenty-four 1/2-inch-wide strips. Twist each strip once; pinch ends to seal.
  • Place twists about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Cover and chill for at least 6 hours or up to 24 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degree F. Brush a little milk over each twist. Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden. Serve warm. Makes 24 twists.

I found the inspiration for this recipe on pintrest.com and just used my own pizza dough recipe in it's place. It's a hit in our house! =]

DOUGH
1 package(s) dry active yeast, quick rise
1 cup(s) water, warm (about 110 degrees)
1 teaspoon(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) salt
2 tablespoon(s) vegetable oil
2 1/2-3 cup(s) flour
FILLING AND TOPPING
1/3 pound(s) cheese of your choice, sliced thinly (i used sharp cheddar)
1 stick(s) butter, melted
- garlic powder, to taste

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar and salt. Add other dough ingredients and stir until mixture forms a ball. Once dough starts pulling away from the sides and the bowl seems to be pretty clean, knead dough on a lightly floured surface for a few minutes. The dough should be smooth and tacky, but when touched shouldn’t leave any dough on your fingers.
  • Turn upside down and pour enough veggie oil to coat ball of dough. Let dough sit in bowl in a warm place, covered(paper towel, plastic wrap, etc.) until doubled in size. (about an hour)
  • Punch down the dough and separate into two equal portions. Form into two long baguettes the length of the cookie sheet. Twist each baguette(helps it keep its length)and cover again and let rise 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 while you're waiting for the dough to rise. Once oven is preheated put the bread into the oven and bake 20 minutes.
  • While the bread is baking, mix melted butter and garlic powder for quick garlic butter.
  • Pull bread out of the oven after 20 minutes and brush with garlic butter. Bake another 5-7 minutes or until bread begins to turn a golden brown. Remove from oven and cool 15 minutes.
  • Cut 1-inch slices 3/4's of the the way through the loaves. Brush garlic butter in between each slice and fill with a slice of cheese. Bake another 3-5 minutes or until cheese is completely melted.
  • Serve right away with dipping sauces of your choice or eat the way it is. =]

  • In a food processor, combine the sugar, 3/4 teaspoon salt, yeast and 2 cups flour. Cover and process for 5-10 seconds. While processing, gradually add warm water and oil in a steady stream. Process for 1 minute or until smooth and elastic. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed. , Turn onto a floured surface. Roll into a 15x12-in. rectangle. Cut into 12 strips. Fold each strip in half lengthwise; twist each strip several times. Pinch ends to seal. Place 2 in. apart on a greased baking sheet. , In a small bowl, combine the butter, garlic powder, paprika and remaining salt. Brush some over dough.
