CANDY CANE ICE CREAM RECIPE - FOOD.COM
My friend and I made this after Christmas because we had extra candy canes left on the tree. We got creative and made our own ice cream with my ice cream maker.

Steps:
- Crack both eggs into a bowl and whisk until light and fluffy.
- Slowly add sugar and whisk till blended.
- Add whipping cream and milk and whisk together.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix.
- Crush candy canes and add to mixture (they should make the ice cream light pink when you add them).
- Put mixture into ice cream maker and wait till done.
- If you want you can save extra candy canes and add them when the ice cream is ready so you have candy cane chunks or you can not add the candy canes in the mixture and just put it in before it's put in the freezer.

Make ice cream without an ice cream machine using this zip-top bag and rock salt trick. Peppermint flavoring and candy canes are festive, but you can flavor your ice cream any way you like.

- Whisk half-and-half, cream, sugar, peppermint extract, and kosher salt in a small bowl to combine; chill ice cream base in freezer 15 minutes.
- Fill a 1-gal. resealable plastic bag two thirds of the way with ice (4–8 cups, depending on the size of your ice). Add rock salt, close bag, and shake to combine. Remove ice cream base from freezer and stir to incorporate any sugar at the bottom of the bowl. Pour into a sandwich-size resealable plastic bag and close. Place into larger bag with ice. Seal larger bag and shake and smush ice around until ice cream is firm, 10–12 minutes.
- Remove ice cream from bag of ice. (If it is too firm to scoop from bag, massage with your hands for a minute to soften ice cream.) Scoop ice cream into a clean small bowl. Using a toothpick, add food coloring to ice cream, dragging it through to create streaks. Top with candy cane pieces.
