Yield Serves: 6–8

Number Of Ingredients 5

750g Brussels sprouts, trimmed
50g butter
4 garlic cloves, crushed
50g chopped hazelnuts
2tsp brown sugar

Steps:

  • Bring a large pan of water to the boil. Simmer the sprouts for 5-10 mins, until cooked through but not too soft. Drain the sprouts and allow to steam-dry in the colander. At this point, you can submerge them in ice-cold water to use later if you want to get ahead. You’ll need to drain and dry them using a tea towel or kitchen paper before the next step.
  • Heat a pan and, when hot, add the butter. As the butter begins to melt, shake the pan until the butter foams, then add the garlic and hazelnuts.
  • Add the sugar and keep shaking the pan. When the nuts have slightly caramelised, toss in the sprouts for 1 min to heat through. Serve immediately.

Here is an easy way to dress up brussel sprouts. If you like brussel spourts this is for you. I can't promise to make you love brussel sprouts if you don't already but I do encourage you to try them this way. Fresh sprouts make a difference.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 lb fresh Brussels sprout
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 tablespoons French onion soup mix (1 packet)
2 cups water
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Trim the root end off the sprouts, peel off the first layer of leaves and cut each one on half.
  • Heat butter and oil in a large frying pan until the butter just starts to brown. Add the sprouts being careful not to get splattered with hot oil.
  • Stir or toss frequently until the sprouts are nicely browned.
  • Add the water and soup mix and simmer uncovered for about 7 minutes. Taste a sprout and season to taste with salt and pepper.

The French Fried Onions cooking make your mouth water before you even before you taste the tender Brussels Sprouts and crispy bacon! Amiah cooked this at Thanksgiving three years ago and it was such a hit, she made it again at Christmas for her grandparents. I never knew my nephews ate Brussels Sprouts!
