1 cup (180g) tapioca pearls
2 black tea bags
2/3 cup hot water (to steep the tea)
1 cup (200g) brown sugar
2 cups milk and ice (to serve, or any non-dairy milk)

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add tapioca pearls, and reduce the heat to medium. Boil for about 25-30 minutes (as per package instructions), stirring often. Remove from heat and set aside for 10 minutes. Wash and drain in a colander.
  • Add 2/3 cup of hot water over the tea bags. Steep for about 6 minutes.
  • In a medium pot, add brown sugar and steeped tea. When the mixture starts boiling, add cooked tapioca pearls and boil for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly until the syrup is thickened.

HOMEMADE BROWN SUGAR BUBBLE TEA RECIPE | ALLRECIPES

Homemade Brown Sugar Bubble Tea Recipe | Allrecipes image

I drank bubble tea every day when I visited Taiwan, and decided to bring back some tapioca pearls (boba) to make my own at home. This is a versatile recipe: you can vary the type of tea and milk you use, and sweeten it to taste. Brew tea to your preferred strength, though it's a good idea to use strong tea because you're going to dilute it with milk and ice. You'll need a wide straw to drink up the boba, or use a long spoon to fish them out!

Cook Time 30 minutes

Yield 2 drinks

Number Of Ingredients 7

4?¼ cups water, divided
¼ cup white tapioca pearls (boba)
2 tablespoons black tea leaves
¼ cup brown sugar
1 cup ice cubes
¼ cup milk
2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk, or to taste

Steps:

  • Bring 2 cups water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add tapioca pearls and stir gently until they begin floating to the top of the water. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until softened and dark, about 25 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 15 minutes.
