Homemade Wonder Bread Recipe - Food.com image

This bread is most like the soft white bread that you buy at the store. If you like a softer crust, butter the top and put in a zip-loc bag.

Total Time 3 hours 15 minutes

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 3 hours

Yield 1 2lb. loaf

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
1 tablespoon white sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup instant potato flakes
1/4 cup powdered milk
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
1 cup warm water

Steps:

  • Whisk together the yeast, 1/4 cup warm water and sugar.
  • Allow to sit for 15 minutes.
  • Add ingredients in the order suggested by your manufacturer, including the yeast mixture.
  • Select the basic and light crust setting.
  • A white bread recipe without a strong yeast flavor.
  • Proofing the yeast first eliminates some of the yeast taste from the final product.
  • Makes 2 lb loaf.

Yield one 10-inch cake

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1?½ teaspoons baking soda
½ cup butter milk
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup molasses
1 egg, slightly beaten

Steps:

  • Combine flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Mix well, and set aside. Dissolve soda in butter milk; stir well, and set aside.
  • Combine butter and molasses in a heavy saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Add to flour mixture. Stir in buttermilk mixture and egg.
  • Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch cast-iron skillet. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in skillet 10 minutes; invert cake onto plate.
