Steps:
- Cut the top of the Sweet Onion (1).
- Lace the onion cut-side down, and, using a sharp knife, make 1/2-inch cuts in a circular motion to create "petals." Flip the onion over and, using your hands, begin coaxing apart its layers.
- In a large bowl, combine All-Purpose Flour (2 1/2 cup), Cayenne Pepper (1 teaspoon), Paprika (2 tablespoon), Dried Oregano (1/2 teaspoon), Salt (to taste), Garlic Powder (1 teaspoon) and Freshly Ground Black Pepper (to taste).
- Place the onion cut-side down in the bowl, cover with a plate, and shake to coat onion and each "petal."
- Meanwhile, in a separate medium bowl, mix large Large Egg (2) with Milk (1 cup). Dip onion in egg wash cut-side down; shake off excess egg wash and return onion to flour mixture to coat a second time. Shake off any excess flour.
- In a deep-fryer or a heavy Dutch oven, heat Corn Oil (as needed) to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), adding enough oil so that the entire onion will be able to float.
- Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, combine dip ingredients until well-mixed. Set aside.
- In the deep-fryer or Dutch oven, add the onion cut-side down in the oil for 2-3 minutes, then carefully flip the onion and allow it to fry for an additional 2-3 minutes or until the batter is golden brown.
- Move it to a plate covered in paper towels to drain off excess oil and season with a little Seasoned Salt (1 teaspoon).
- Serve immediately with sauce.

FLOWERING VIDALIA ONION RECIPE | ALLRECIPES
This recipe is compared to the flowering onions you get in a steak house! It is a breaded vidalia onion fried to be crispy and served with a tangy sauce. A friend of mine gave me this recipe, I have brought it to several cook outs and get great compliments every time. Enjoy!

Steps:
- Whisk together the flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, and thyme in a bowl, and set aside. Whisk together the egg and milk in a separate small bowl, and set aside.
- "Flower" the onion by cutting 1 inch off of the top of the onion, leaving the root intact. Make slices in the onion from top to bottom, 1/2 inch apart, making sure not to cut the roots. Gently separate the pieces of the onion making it look like a blossom. Dip the onion flower into the milk mixture, making sure to moisten all of the "petals". Coat the flower with the seasoned flour, and gently shake off any excess flour. Place the onion onto a plate, and refrigerate for 45 minutes.
- Stir together the creamy salad dressing, horseradish, ketchup, paprika, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, oregano, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper to make the dipping sauce for the onion.
- Heat the frying oil in deep-fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Fry the onion in the hot oil until the onion is tender on the inside, and crispy golden brown on the outside, 10 to 12 minutes. Drain upside down on a paper towel-lined plate for several minutes before serving with the sauce.

- Place the onion, flower side up, into a deep fryer or deep pan, making sure the veggie oil is around 350°F (175°C). 7-10 minutes will make sure you are left with a crispy, golden beauty, but keep your eye on it. When you retrieve the onion, the petals will have unfurled even more, so that you have a truly blooming onion. Give it a shake, then put it on some paper towels to drain off the excess oil.

- Roast for 40 minutes. Rearrange onions so that their petals open, and drizzle with a few spoonfuls of the caramelized onion juices from the pan. Roast until onions are tender on the inside with crispy bits on their outer petals, about 20 minutes longer. Season with pepper and more salt to taste. Serve hot or at room temperature as a side dish, or as dinner with a good cheese and a green salad.
