BLACK AND TAN COCKTAIL RECIPE - DIFFORD'S GUIDE

Black and Tan Cocktail Recipe - Difford's Guide image

A layered drink with pale ale (or lager) downstairs and stout upstairs. If poured correctly these two beers make a perfect "black and tan" layer in the glass.

Total Time 02 minutes0S

Prep Time 02 minutes0S

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 2

1/2 Pale ale
1/2 Beer - Stout

Steps:

  • POUR pale ale or lager into chilled glass then carefully FLOAT Guinness on top
  • Layering can be aided by pouring down the stout/porter down the shaft of a bar spoon so that the flat end dissipates the falling porter/stout
  • Or, an upturned tablespoon or a purpose-made black-and-tan may be used
  • This is bent in the middle of the handle so that it can be secured on the edge of a pint glass

Prep Time 5 minutes

Yield 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 (12 fluid ounce) bottle lager beer (such as Harp®)
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle Irish stout beer (such as Guinness®)

Steps:

  • Gently pour half the lager beer into a tall beer glass. Place a large tablespoon, dome side up, an inch or so above the lager beer, with the tip of the spoon pointed slightly downhill. Slowly pour half the stout beer over the tablespoon, so the stout gently pours down the side of the glass in a thick trickle. Allow to stand a few seconds so 2 distinct layers of beer form.

BLACK AND TAN ONION RINGS RECIPE - FOOD.COM
Despite the title, this recipe contains no alcohol. I created this recipe one day and pretty much improvised. In any case, the reason for the title is the texture. This recipe yields onion rings that are crispy and tasty on the outside and tender on the inside. According to me the best results of this recipe are the texture of the product and the fact that these rings don't taste as fatty as most other varieties. Honestly, these are the best onion rings I have ever had. If you've seen other recipes for onion rings, you'll probably notice the absence of buttermilk and the presense of chicken or vegetable stock here. I did this because I simply had no buttermilk at the time and instead of using a bland ingredient or another ingredient that would yield more fat content, I opted for the stock.

  • * I'm not sure exactly how much stock to use here but start with the recommended 1 1/2 cups and add flour and stock intermittently until a batter texture is achieved.

BLACK & TAN RECIPE | HOMEBREW TALK - BEER, WINE, MEAD ...
Feb 12, 2010 · 6,921. Feb 11, 2010. #2. Black and tans are made at the keg faucet with a brolly spoon. A hoppy beer like Bell's 2 hearter, IMO, would not meld well in a Black and Tan. You use a mellow hopped Enlgish Pale for the tan. And fermenting or even bottling/kegging the two batches together would definietly not get a separation like when ordering one.
