Philly cheesesteak sandwich in a crispy shell and made with ground beef!

1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1 yellow onion, chopped
½ green bell pepper, chopped
24 egg roll wrappers
12 slices American cheese
¾ cup vegetable oil for frying

Steps:

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook beef, breaking apart as little as possible, until browned and still the size of peas, 5 to 7 minutes. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir gently and remove mixture from pan.
  • Melt butter in the skillet. Add onion and bell pepper; cook and stir until browned, 5 to 7 minutes. Return beef mixture to the skillet and stir to combine. Let filling cool while preparing the wrappers.
  • Lay egg roll wrappers on a flat surface. Place 1/2 a slice of American cheese onto each. Add 3 tablespoons of the filling on top of each egg roll. Pull the bottom left corner over the filling and fold the two sides in, moistening edges with water as you go; roll tightly.
  • Heat about 1 inch oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add 3 to 4 egg rolls at a time and fry until browned, 3 to 4 minutes. Repeat with remaining egg rolls.

1 pound chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
½ teaspoon kosher salt
freshly ground black pepper to taste
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
14 ounces smoked sausage, sliced on the diagonal
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1?¼ cups heavy cream
2 cups dried penne pasta
1?½ tablespoons Cajun seasoning, plus more to taste
½ cup freshly shredded Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon minced Italian flat-leaf parsley

Steps:

  • Season chicken with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large, covered cooking pot over medium-high heat. Brown chicken in the hot oil, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Add sausage to the pot and continue to cook until lightly browned, about 5 minutes more. Stir in garlic and cook for about 2 minutes. Add chicken broth, heavy cream, pasta, and Cajun seasoning. Stir together and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, about 5 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and cook until pasta is tender, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese. Stir in chopped parsley and sprinkle with additional Cajun seasoning if desired.

They eventually settled on frosting their Bundts with large piped vertical ropes, so the icing looks like it’s dripping down the outside of the cake. To make a Bundt cake that matches the moistness and crumb of the real thing, it’s important to start with the right flour. The cake has more bite to it than one made with only cake flour, but it isn’t as tough as one made with all-purpose flour. That’s why I settled on pastry flour, like the one from Bob’s Red Mill. Pastry flour contains more protein than cake flour, but not as much as all-purpose flour, so it works perfectly here. If you can’t find pastry flour, no need to worry. I’ve got a way for you to hack it by combining cake flour with all-purpose flour in a 2-to-1 ratio. The raspberry puree is made from scratch using frozen raspberries and it’s swirled into the batter before the cake goes into the oven. While the cake cools you can make the cream cheese buttercream icing. Get a 1A tip, which is a wide, circular tip for a pastry bag or gun, to make ropes of icing over the top and down the sides of the cake all the way around, just like the original.
