I first had a taste of this dish when my husband's aunt shared this with us. I thought it was quite okay though I am not sure if it was Vietnamese or Filipino recipe. My husband didn't like it. I appreciate it, anyway. But, I guess, a dish is a dish as long as we enjoy it.

4 garlic cloves
1/4 cup chopped white onion
1/2 cup pork (chunked)
1/2 cup shrimp (peeled, deveined and sliced)
4 -5 cups fresh bean sprouts
1/2 cup fried tofu
1/2 cup shredded cilantro
1 cup shrimp juice
corn oil
2 -3 tablespoons fish sauce

Steps:

  • Saute garlic and onion in oil.
  • Add pork and cook until brown.
  • Add the shrimps until orange.
  • Add the bean sprouts. Mix well.
  • Add the tofu and the shrimp juice. Boil for 5 minutes Adjust the taste to your liking with the fish sauce.
  • Toss in the cilantro and simmer for 1 minute.
  • Done!

This is a brilliantly simple, fuss-free, healthy, flavour-packed tofu stir-fry dish. It goes extremely well with noodles, quinoa or any grain of your choice. Enjoy!

400 gram Firm Tofu
70 gram Bean Sprouts
50 gram Chinese Chives
1 clove Garlic
2 tablespoon Light Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Dark Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Mirin
2 tablespoon Olive Oil
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 pinch Ground Black Pepper

Steps:

  • Rinse the Bean Sprouts (70 gram) and Chinese Chives (50 gram) and shake through a sieve to remove excess water, set aside.
  • Mix Garlic (1 clove), Light Soy Sauce (2 tablespoon), Dark Soy Sauce (1 tablespoon), Mirin (1 tablespoon), Salt (1/4 teaspoon), and Ground Black Pepper (1 pinch) in a small mixing bowl, set aside.
  • Heat the Olive Oil (2 tablespoon) in a large, non-stick frying pan. Add the Firm Tofu (400 gram) and fry for 5-7 minutes, turning frequently, until it turns golden in color.
  • Reduce the heat to medium, add the sauce mix and stir-fry gently for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Add in the bean sprouts and chives, toss gently for another minute.
  • Serve with rice, noodles, quinoa, or grain of your choice.
