Baklava Bites Recipe: How to Make It - Taste of Home image

I love anything baked in phyllo dough. I find that these little bundles are easier to make than traditional baklava but taste just as good! —Barb Templin, Norwood, Minnesota

Number Of Ingredients 16

1/3 cup pistachios
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup unblanched almonds
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup butter, melted, divided
1 ounce semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
15 sheets phyllo dough (14x9 inch size)
SYRUP:
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon orange juice

Steps:

  • Place the first seven ingredients in a food processor; process until finely chopped. Transfer to a small bowl; stir in honey and 2 tablespoons melted butter. Stir in chocolate., Preheat oven to 350°. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a work surface; brush with butter. Layer with four additional phyllo sheets, brushing each layer. (Keep remaining phyllo covered with plastic wrap and a damp towel to prevent it from drying out.), Using a sharp knife, cut the layered sheets into twelve squares. Carefully press each stack into a greased miniature muffin cup; fill each with a rounded teaspoonful of filling. Form into bundles by gathering edges of phyllo squares and twisting centers to close. Repeat twice with remaining ingredients., Brush tops with remaining melted butter. Bake 18-20 minutes or until golden brown., Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine syrup ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cook and stir until sugar is completely dissolved., Remove baklava bites from oven; drizzle immediately with syrup. Remove from pans to wire racks; cool. Store in an airtight container.

3/4 cup chopped Fisher® Chef's Naturals Walnuts
6 tablespoons cup sugar, divided
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons honey
1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 package (15 count) mini fillo shells

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Combine ¼ cup sugar, water, honey, cinnamon stick, lemon juice and lemon zest in a small saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for about 10 minutes. Allow to cool while baklava bakes.
  • Place walnuts, 2 tbsp. sugar, butter, cinnamon, and cloves in the bowl of a food processor and pulse to combine. Spoon 1 tablespoon of nut mixture into each filo shell. Bake at 350°F oven for 10 minutes or until filling is hot and has set. Remove from oven and let cool 15 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick from syrup before pouring into each mini baklava. Store in the refrigerator.
  • Note: Press down gently on the inside of the shells before filling to remove any bubbles of cooked dough.
