Avocado Wontons with Spicy Ranch Dip | Allrecipes image

Wontons filled with avocado, coleslaw mix, red onion and fresh cilantro are deep fried until crispy and served with a creamy ranch-style dip.

12 wonton wrappers
2 avocados from Mexico, peeled, pitted and sliced
½ cup coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots)
¼ cup chopped red onion
¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 quarts oil for frying
¾ cup mayonnaise
¾ cup sour cream
1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chiles
1 (1 ounce) packet dry ranch dressing mix
1 clove garlic, minced
¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • Lay out a square wonton wrapper with one point facing you. Place 1 to 2 slices of avocado in the center. Top with cole slaw mix, onion and cilantro. Moisten the edges of the wonton using your finger dipped in water. Fold wonton over to make a triangle. Then flip in the two corners to secure. Press all edges to ensure the seams are secure. Continue until all of the wontons are filled.
  • Heat oil in a cast iron pan over medium-high heat to 350 degrees F, or when a drop of water sizzles when sprinkled on surface. If necessary, cook wontons in batches to avoid crowding. Fry wontons on each side until wrappers are golden brown and crisp, 2 to 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  • Combine mayonnaise, sour cream, green chiles, ranch dressing mix, garlic and cilantro in a bowl. Stir until well blended (you can also use a blender for this). Serve as a dipping sauce for the wontons.

These innovative and surely delicious avocado wontons are filled with fresh diced avocado with lime, tomato, onion, and more, all packed in a crispy wonton!

12 wonton wrappers
1 diced large avocado
2 tsp lime juice
2 tbsp diced sundried tomato
1 tbsp minced red onion
½ tbsp minced cilantro
for frying oil
For Cilantro Dipping Sauce:
2 tbsp cream cheese
3 tbsp sour cream
¼ tsp garlic powder
½ tbsp or to taste cilantro
½ tsp lime juice
to taste salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Cilantro Dipping Sauce:
  • Combine all th ingredients in a small blender and process until smooth. Set aside.
  • Avocado Wontons:
  • Preheat about ½-inch vegetable oil in a pan.
  • Combine the diced avocado and lime juice. Toss with the sundried tomatoes, onion, and cilantro.
  • Working with one at a time, place about 1 tablespoon of the filling on each wonton wrapper. Dip your finger in water and run it along the edges of the wrapper.
  • Fold diagonally and seal shut by pinching the edges.
  • Test the oil with a small piece of a wonton wrapper. When added, it should float and bubble.
  • Once hot enough, add the filled wontons a few at a time. Cook for about 2 minutes per side or until browned and crispy.
  • Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

  • In a medium bowl, stir together cream cheese, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, avocado, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, cilantro and jalapeños. On a clean work surface, lay out a wonton wrapper so a corner is pointed towards you (making it look like a diamond). Moisten the edges of the wrappers with water. Add 1 tsp of the filling in the center of the wonton wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half, over the filling. Start by pressing around the filling gently and pressing out towards the edges to seal. You want to make sure there are no air pockets by the filling so it seals properly. Repeat with the remaining filling and wonton wrappers. Heat 2 to 3 inches of canola oil in a heavy-bottomed large pot. Once the oil reaches 375°F on an oil thermometer, fry the wontons in batches of 3 to 4 at a time. Fry until golden brown, approximately 1 minute per side. Remove to a paper towel lined plate to drain. Serve hot with a garnish of cilantro and sliced jalapeño, if desired.
