WARM APPLE TOPPING RECIPE: HOW TO MAKE IT - TASTE OF HOME
My husband and I love preparing entire meals on the grill, to the surprise and delight of company. We create this unique dessert for my mother, who can't eat most grain products. She was thrilled with the sweet fruit topping spooned over vanilla ice cream.

Steps:
- Cut each apple into 16 wedges; place all on an 18-in. square piece of heavy-duty foil. Sprinkle with raisins; drizzle with lemon juice. , In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, salt and nutmeg; cut in the butter until crumbly. Stir in walnuts. Sprinkle over apples and raisins., Fold foil around apple mixture and seal tightly. Grill over indirect medium heat for 18-22 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve with ice cream.

- Toss together apples and lemon juice in a bowl; set aside.
- Stir together sugar and water in a heavy skillet; bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Reduce the heat to low and cook, not stirring but swirling the pan, until the sugar turns a deep amber, about 5 minutes (if the sugar crystallizes, it will take longer, but will eventually melt and caramelize).
- Remove the pan from the heat and swirl in butter. Transfer the apples to the pan, cover and return to low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the caramel has dissolved and the apples are translucent, about 10 minutes. Stir in Calvados, if using. Serve warm.

- Preheat oven to 350°. For streusel, combine brown sugar, flour and cinnamon in a bowl; cut in 3 tablespoons butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in pecans. , Press into a 9-in. pie plate. Bake 10-12 minutes or until the edges are browned. Cool slightly; break into small pieces. Cool completely., In a small skillet, melt remaining butter. Stir in apple, sugar and cinnamon. Cook 8-10 minutes or until apple is tender; cool., In a large saucepan, heat milk to 175° stir in sugar until dissolved. Cool. In a large bowl, combine milk mixture; cream and vanilla. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight., Fill cylinder of ice cream freezer; freeze according to manufacturer's directions, adding apple mixture during the last 5 minutes of processing. , Spoon a third of the ice cream into a freezer container. Top with a third of the streusel mixture. Drizzle with a third of the caramel topping. Repeat layers once. Top with remaining ice cream. With a spatula, cut through ice cream in several places to gently swirl layers. Cover; freeze overnight. Garnish with the remaining streusel and caramel topping.
