I got the idea for this delicious fall dessert from a lovely Italian woman who’s also a fabulous cook. It’s so simple to make—and cleanup is just as easy! I often make two and freeze one. —Stacie Blemings, Heath, Texas

1 large apple, peeled and chopped
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 sheet refrigerated pie crust
2 tablespoons apple jelly
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup cinnamon baking chips
1/3 cup sliced almonds
1 teaspoon 2% milk
ICING:
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 to 2 tablespoons 2% milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. Toss apple with lemon juice., On a large sheet of parchment, roll crust into a 14-in. circle; transfer to a baking sheet. Spread jelly onto crust to within 2 in. of edge. Sprinkle with apple, sugar, baking chips and almonds. Fold up edge of crust over filling, leaving opening in center. Brush folded crust with milk., Bake until golden brown, 20-25 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool., Mix icing ingredients, using enough milk to reach desired consistency. Drizzle over tart.

½ cup apple juice or water
3 large tart apples, such as Granny Smith, peeled, sliced
1 pkg (18 oz each) refrigerated sugar cookie dough
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Reddi-wip® Original Whipped Light Cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Bring apple juice to a boil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add apples; stir. Reduce heat to low; cover. Simmer 3 to 4 minutes, or until apples are crisp-tender, stirring occasionally. Remove apples from skillet with slotted spoon; place in large bowl. Cool slightly. Discard liquid from skillet. Cut dough into thin slices. Arrange on bottom and up side of greased and floured 9-inch pie plate. Press dough together to form solid crust; set aside. Combine sugar and cinnamon in small bowl. Remove 2 tablespoons of the sugar mixture. Add to apples; toss to coat. Add lemon juice; mix lightly. Spoon into crust. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons sugar mixture. Bake 30 to 40 minutes, or until top is set and crust is golden brown. Cool slightly on wire rack. Cut into 8 slices. Top each slice with a serving of Reddi-wip. Serve warm.

Using a paring knife, cut the puff pastry into 6 squares. Use the knife to score a ? border around the inside of each square; dock all over inside the border with a fork. Place the puff pastry pieces on the prepared baking sheet. Chill in the refrigerator while you prepare the apples. 3. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with one tablespoon water. Set aside. 4. Cut the apple into thin slices, about ? inch thick. In a medium bowl, mix together the butter, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add the apple slices and toss to coat. Taste and add more cinnamon as desired. 5. Remove the puff pastry from the fridge. Using a pastry brush, brush the edges with the reserved egg wash. Arrange a few of the apple slices on each square, keeping them inside the border as much as possible. Sprinkle generously all over with more demerara sugar. Chill in the refrigerator for 8 to 10 minutes. 6. Bake the tarts until puffed and deeply golden, 30 to 35 minutes. Cool slightly before serving.
