This was my Mom's recipe. Easy and quick to make. Apples and walnuts are packed into a cinnamon spiced blonde brownie. Always a hit when I bring it to parties. Very moist and great to make in the fall when apples are plentiful.

½ cup butter, melted
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
3 medium apples - peeled, cored and thinly sliced
½ cup chopped walnuts
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the melted butter, sugar, and egg until fluffy. Fold in the apples and walnuts. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Stir the flour mixture into the wet mixture until just blended. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

I won 1st place in an apple bake-off contest with this recipe. It is the easiest and best apple pie I have ever tasted. It has no crust, believe me, it doesn't need one. I always use Granny Smith apples because they are the best apples for pies. Enjoy!!!!

Number Of Ingredients 9

2?½ cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup margarine, melted
½ cup chopped pecans
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch pie pan with margarine.
  • Fill 2/3 of the pan with sliced apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon and 1 teaspoon sugar.
  • In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup sugar with the melted margarine. Stir in pecans, flour, egg and salt. Mix well. Spread mixture over the apples.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 65 minutes, or until golden brown.

Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes or until easy to handle., Preheat oven to 350°. Roll each portion of dough between 2 lightly floured sheets of waxed paper into a 7-in. square. Place an apple on each square. Place 1 teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon cinnamon sugar in the center of each apple., Gently bring up corners of dough to each center, trimming any excess; pinch edges to seal. If desired, cut out apple leaves and stems from dough scraps; attach to dumplings with water. Place dumplings in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish.
