Spiced Apple Bagel Recipe: How to Make It image

3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
1 honey-wheat or plain bagel, split
3 tablespoons chopped apple
4 teaspoons raisins
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Spread cream cheese on bagel halves. Top with apple and raisins. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; sprinkle over the top. Place on a baking sheet; broil 6-8 in. from the heat for 2-3 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

These stuffed bagels are so delicious! Noone would guess they are WW friendly. If this is your first time making bagels, you may want to start with the regular bagel recipe first, just to get a feel for it. Here is a link to the regular bagel recipe with a video tutorial.

 

To store these, you can freeze them in a ziplock bag once they are completely cool. When you are ready to eat them, wrap them in foil and heat them in the toaster oven for about 10 minutes. Microwave not recommended.

Number Of Ingredients 1

For the dough:, 1 cup (120 grams) bread flour (All purpose flour is ok too but I prefer bread flour), 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 3/4 cup FAGE non-fat greek yogurt,, For the filling:, 1 1/2 cups peeled & chopped apples (Granny Smith), 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce, 4 tsp sugar, 1 tbsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp allspice, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, tiny pinch of salt (1/8 th of a tsp),, Additional:, 1 scrambled egg (used as a wash), Mix of 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp sugar (for dusting the tops)

Steps:

  • <p>Full demonstration in the video.</p> <p>Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.</p> <p>Add the yogurt and mix until all the flour is incorporated to form a ball of dough.</p> <p>Cover with plastic wrap and set aside.</p> <p>Prepare the filling:</p> <p>Peel and chop apples into 1/2 inch pieces.</p> <p>Place the apples in a bowl and mix in the applesauce, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and salt</p> <p>Preheat oven to 400</p> <p>Line a baking sheet with parchment paper</p> <p>Divide the dough into 4 equally sized peices</p> <p>Roll the first peice into an oval about 6" - 7" wide, and about 4" high</p> <p>Place 1/4 of the apple filling in a strip onto the oval (leave 1" margin on the left and right)</p> <p>Gently roll the dough over the filling, into a log shape</p> <p>Pinch the two ends closed and form the log into a circle shape, pinching the two ends together</p> <p>Touch up any seams the best you can, and place on the baking sheet</p> <p>Repeat for remaining peices of dough</p> <p>Brush the bagels with egg wash and sprinkle a very light dusting of the cinnamon sugar on top</p> <p>Bake for about 20 - 25 minutes</p> <p>Allow the bagels to cool for 20 minutes before eating them</p> <p>Once the bagels are completely cool, store them in a ziplock bag in the freezer. To reheat them, wrap in foil and toast in the toaster oven for 10 minutes.</p> <p>Happy baking. Have fun!</p>
