2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon steak sauce
1/4 teaspoon cider vinegar
1 pound ground beef
4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
8 cooked bacon strips
Optional toppings: lettuce leaves and tomato, onion and pickle slices

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into four patties., Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat or broil 3 in. from the heat for 4-7 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear. Top with cheese. Grill 1 minute longer or until cheese is melted. Serve on buns with bacon and toppings of your choice.

2.5 cups Freshly Ground Chuck
8 Slices Deli-Counter American Cheese
4 Large Burger Buns
2 teaspoons Salt
2 teaspoons Onion Powder
2 teaspoons Black Pepper
Ketchup
Mayonnaise
Thousand Island Dressing
Sliced Red Onion
Sliced Tomatoes
Sliced Pickles
Fresh Lettuce Leaves

Steps:

  • 01 - In a large bowl, mix Ground Beef, Onion Powder, Salt and Pepper until just combined. ( Do not overmix ) 02 - Divide into six portions and form patties, without pressing too hard. ( Smooth out any cracks using your fingers. Make these right before you grill them, so they stay at room temperature ) 03 - Preheat your grill, grill pan or cast-iron skillet to high heat and add burger patties. ( If using a grill, cover with the lid ) 04 - Cook until a little crust starts forming, about 2 minutes. 05 - Flip over and add 2 slices of Cheese. ( Close lid if using a grill )06 - Remove Burgers with a sturdy metal spatula and transfer to a plate. 07 - Allow to rest for several minutes, then transfer to buns. 08 - Garnish as desired and serve immediately.

  • 1. Put the minced meat in a bowl and gently mix together, dividing into four patties. Move each patty from hand to hand for two minutes, making sure it is firm but not overworked, then shape into a ball. Gently flatten to form 2cm-thick patties and refrigerate.

    2. Take patties out of the fridge about two hours in advance to allow them to be close to room temperature when you cook them. This will ensure an even temperature for cooking.

    3. Heat a heavy-based frying pan large enough to fit all four patties until very hot. Brush olive oil over the patties and season liberally with sea salt. Cook on one side until a really good crust forms, then turn over to finish the cooking, adding two slices of cheese to each patty so it starts to melt. If you like the burger rare, cook for five minutes on each side; for medium rare, six minutes on each side; and for well done, seven to eight minutes on each side. 

    4. Remove the patties from the pan and rest for five minutes while you cook the bacon until it's reasonably crispy, but not dry.

    5. To assemble the burgers, toast the buns under a grill on the cut side. Place the bun bottoms on four plates, and spread each with mustard. Place a slice of cheese over the mustard, then a rested patty with the melted cheese on top. Add bacon and top with lots of barbecue sauce, a dollop of mayonnaise and a few slices of pickled cucumber. Add a grind of fresh pepper, top with the bun lid and serve.
