What Do You Need to Make Chicken Fajitas in Air Fryer?
Ingredients for this recipe are easy to find and pantry staples. You don't need grocery trip to make Chicken Fajitas. I have also included homemade Fajita Seasoning recipe link below.
Here is the list of ingredients you need:
- Chicken Tenders (or breast cut into small strips.)
- Fajita Seasoning (try homemade seasoning)
- Lemon Or Lime Juice
- Garlic
- Onion
- Bell Peppers
- Olive Oil
- Bouillon
To Cook Fajitas in Air Fryer:
Follow these notes when cooking chicken fajitas in the air fryer. These will help make juicy chicken fajitas every time.
- Preheat Air Fryer to ensures even cooking from the start. For Ninja foodi fryer, I preheat for 3 minutes.
- Add peppers in at the half time so that peepers and onions are perfectly cooked and crunchy (not at all mushy).
- Marinate Chicken for best results. Delicious marinade recipe included in the recipe card.
- Use Air Fryer Rack when cooking chicken fajitas in the air fryer. This way fajitas cook nice and crispy with seasonings and juices from the chicken collect at the bottom (below rack). Pour juices over fajitas before serving. (yum!)
I first cook marinated chicken in preheat fryer until it is no longer pink. Next add sliced veggies on the side, add seasoning and continue cooking until chicken is cooked through. Don't forget to use the juices of chicken collected at the bottom of fryer. These make fajitas moist and delicious.
Sizzling Chicken Fajitas
You can also make drunken sizzling chicken fajita in two simple steps:
1) Cook chicken fajita as recipe suggests and switch off air fryer.
2) Remove fryer and immediately de glaze with 2 tbsp of vodka or white wine. Serve immediately.
Time for Cooking Fajitas
Since chicken is cut into small strips, Chicken Fajitas cook very quickly in the air fryer. I recommend to keep an eye as time can vary based on make and model of air fryer, and quantity of fajitas. I made 1.5 pound chicken fajitas in Ninja foodi XL fryer (5.5 quart). This took about 12 minutes of cooking and 3 minutes of pre heating.
Always keep an eye in last couple of minutes. Don't let chicken dry out. You can always pause the fryer and check the doneness of a chicken strip before continuing.
TIP: Replace chicken with firm tofu strips to make vegetarian Chicken Fajitas!

Steps:
- In a seal-able bag, mix fajita marinate ingredients - use half of the fajita seasoning. Add chicken sliced into strips (or chicken tenders if using). Massage bag to distribute seasoning on to the chicken. See Note 1. Make sure all pieces are well coated in marinate.
- Insert air fryer rack in the air fryer. Preheat air fryer at 390 degrees Fahrenheit on Air Roast setting, for 3 minutes.
- Add marinated chicken spread in even layer. Set fryer to Air Roast at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes. Roast for first 3 minutes, pause fryer and then toss chicken once with silicon tipped tongs. Continue Air Roast for 3 more minutes.
- Pause air fryer, with silicon tip tongs, move chicken on the one side, Add peppers and onions on now empty side. Drizzle oil and sprinkle remaining seasoning half on veggies and half on chicken. Toss once to distribute seasoning. Continue cooking for remaining time or until chicken is cooked through. Keep an eye in last 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer cooked chicken fajitas to a serving platter. Remove rack from fryer and pour juices collected at the bottom over the chicken and veggies. Serve with warmed tortillas and salsa on side with lime wedges. (See note 2 and 3)
