Air-fried chicken wings - BBC Good Food image

Use an air fryer to make these easy chicken wings, and add the seasoning or sauce of your choice. They're perfect for a buffet or just a movie night snack

1kg chicken wings
1 tbsp sunflower or olive oil
seasoning of your choice (use salt and pepper, or ½-1 tsp of either smoky BBQ, ras-el-hanout, garlic granules, celery salt or garam masala)
dipping sauce, to serve (optional)

Steps:

  • Separate each chicken wing in two at the joint, removing the wing tips if you like using sharp kitchen scissors. Toss the chicken wings in the oil and seasoning, then tip into an air fryer (you can either use one with a paddle, or arrange them on the tray of your air fryer if it doesn’t have a paddle).
  • Program the air fryer to cook for 35 mins. Check the wings are tender and cooked through – they should be almost falling off the bone – and cook for a further 5 mins if needed. The skin should have bubbled and crisped up, and any excess fat from the chicken will have dripped off into base of the fryer (discard this). Don’t leave the chicken in the fryer, or the steam will make the skin soft again. Immediately tip into a bowl and serve with sauce for dipping.

These air fryer fried chicken drumsticks are crispy on the outside and so juicy and tender on the inside! They taste like real fried chicken but are healthier as they are cooked using a healthier method using less oil. These are the perfect treat for every fried chicken lover who whats to eat a bit healthier without losing flavor!

Number Of Ingredients 10

8 Chicken drumsticks
1 cup Buttermilk
1 cup Breadcrumbs
2 tbsp Olive oil
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Black pepper
1 tsp Garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp Smoked paprika
1/4 tsp Chili powder
1 tsp Onion powder

Steps:

  • Put chicken legs in a bowl, add buttermilk, and mix well.
  • Marinate for at least 30 minutes in the fridge.
  • Combine the spices and breadcrumbs in a shallow bowl.
  • Dip chicken pieces in the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Preheat at the air fryer at 400°F for 3 minutes.
  • Lightly oil the air fryer basket.
  • Put the chicken drumsticks in a single layer in the basket (don’t overcrowd the basket)
  • Use an oil mister or brush, to coat the chicken very lightly (all over) with olive oil.
  • Cook the chicken for 25 minutes.
  • Shake the basket halfway through. Apply some oil onto the chicken if necessary.
  • Check for doneness and serve.
