CAKE PAN CONVERSIONS - JUST A PINCH RECIPES

Cake Pan Conversions - Just A Pinch Recipes image

You never need to adjust the oven temperature: cakes need to bake quickly in a relatively hot oven to set their structure and to make sure they don't dry out. You only need to adjust the baking time. If you’re using a smaller pan with the same volume of batter (using an 11"x8" pan instead of 13"x9"), you're actually making a deeper cake, so it might take a little longer to bake. MY BREAD RECIPE MAKES TWO 9X5 LOAVES BUT I ONLY HAVE 8X4 ...
Jul 17, 2011 · Hardlikearmour, I've noticed that loaf pans vary in shape as well. Some have a more tapered trapezoid on the bottom while others are considerably wider (I am thinking of an 8x4 Kaiser pan and a 9x5 Cuisinart pan), so volume calculation would probably fail you here unless they are identical. Good thinking though, volume is the better way to ...

THE SIMPLY RECIPES GUIDE TO LOAF PANS
Jul 02, 2019 · 8 1/2-Inch Pans vs 9-Inch Pans. In America, what recipes call a “ standard loaf pan ” is 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches. If a store sells only one size of loaf pan, this is probably it. If you own one loaf pan, it should probably be this size. But larger loaf pans are not uncommon, either in stores or for recipes.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT BREAD PAN - KING ARTHUR BAKING
Feb 12, 2016 · A single-loaf recipe using at least 3 3/4 cups flour – white, whole-grain, or a combination – should be baked in the larger 9" x 5" pan. Recipes calling for 4 cups of flour (or more) will usually specify a pain de mie pan, 10" x 5" loaf pan, or similar. If they don't, and you don't have a pan larger than 9" x 5", consider baking part of the dough in your 9" x 5" pan (enough for the unrisen dough to fill the pan 1/2 to 2/3 full), and making rolls from the rest.

A QUESTION ABOUT LOAF PANS - THE FRESH LOAF
Any recipe should be able to work in any sized pan. Just be prepared to adjust baking time and temperature, and not to take what the recipe says as gospel. For example, if you're using a 9x5 loaf pan rather than a 8x8 square pan, you might want to drop the temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for longer to allow the center to set.
