Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon white sugar
½ teaspoon salt
? cup milk
5 tablespoons butter, cut into bits

Steps:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.
Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl. Add milk and butter and work it in with your fingers until a dough forms.
Roll dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 1/2 inch. Use cookie cutters to shape biscuits. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven until light brown, 10 to 12 minutes.

Ingredients

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
3 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted, divided

Steps:

Preheat oven to 450°. In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk, tossing with a fork until a ball forms. , Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 5-6 times. Roll or pat to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet. Brush tops with 1 tablespoon butter. Bake until golden brown, 9-11 minutes. Brush with remaining butter. Serve warm.
